Become a Caregiver for Someone Who Needs You
Parents, spouses, family members, or trusted support people — Green Bridge guides you through PA's caregiver registration, fingerprinting, and patient linking. Free of charge.
Who can become a caregiver?
You don't need to be related to the patient. Anyone who meets the requirements can register — and help as many patients as needed.
Parent or Legal Guardian
Parents and legal guardians of minor patients. Minors always require a designated caregiver in order to receive medication.
Spouse or Partner
Spouses and domestic partners of adult patients who need help picking up their medication or managing their program account.
Family or Trusted Friend
Any trusted person 21 or older. You do not need to be a blood relative. The patient simply designates you in their DOH portal.
Support for Homebound
Adults who are elderly, disabled, nonverbal, or homebound may have a caregiver register and manage the program entirely on their behalf.
Good to know: Each patient may designate up to two caregivers. Caregivers may serve an unlimited number of patients. Minor patients are required to have a caregiver — they cannot obtain medication independently.
What you'll need to register
How it works — step by step
Green Bridge walks you through every step. Most people find the portal confusing — that's exactly why we're here.
Submit Intake
Fill out the Green Bridge intake form below. We'll contact you to clarify your situation and caregiver type.
Register in PA Portal
We guide you through the PA DOH registration system, choosing the correct caregiver category and completing your application.
Fingerprinting
Schedule and complete your fingerprint appointment for the state background check. Cost: $7.80 paid at the appointment.
Approval & Linking
After DOH approves (~3–4 weeks), pay $50 for your caregiver ID card, then link your account to the patient's profile.
Types you'll see in the PA portal
The state system offers several caregiver registration paths. Green Bridge helps you pick the right one.
Adult Patient (Already Registered)
The patient already has a PA medical marijuana card and needs you added as their caregiver.
Minor / Homebound / Assistance Patient
The patient does not have their own ID card. You'll manage the account and pickups on their behalf.
Registering a New Patient
The patient hasn't registered yet. You'll register both yourself as caregiver and them as a new patient simultaneously.
DOH Caregiver Pool
The state may match you with patients who need a caregiver but don't have one. Opt-in during registration.

How to link caregiver ↔ patient
Once you're approved, you need to connect your caregiver account to the patient's profile in the state portal.
From the patient's account: Log in to the PA DOH portal → select Manage Caregivers → Add Caregiver → enter the caregiver's name and ID number.
Need help? If the patient has trouble accessing their portal, Green Bridge will walk them through it step by step — or handle it together over the phone.
