Frequently Asked Questions

Answers for patients in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, Michigan, and Virginia.

Who is Green Bridge Society and what do you actually do? ?

Green Bridge Society is a multi-state advocate owned medical cannabis practice. Our doctors provide medical marijuana certifications and renewals by telemedicine so you can complete the process from home.

We currently certify patients in:

  • Pennsylvania
  • West Virginia
  • Ohio
  • Michigan
  • Virginia

We also offer pharmacist consultations to help you understand products, dosing, and building a safe regimen.

How does the certification process work from start to finish? ?

The process is simple and similar in every state:

  1. Register or complete our online form.
Choose your state and complete the short intake form so we have your basic information and medical history.
  2. Doctor telemedicine call.
A licensed practitioner will call you during the time window you select. They review your history, and determine if you qualify.
  3. Certification is issued.
If you qualify, the doctor submits your certification in your state’s medical marijuana system or issues a written certification/letter (for states like Virginia).
  4. Finish the state step (if required).
Some states require you to log into a state portal, pay a fee, or print a card. We walk you through that and help if you get stuck.
  5. Shop at dispensaries.
Once your certification and state steps are complete, you can visit licensed dispensaries in your state.

If you need help with the state portal or lost-card issues, visit our Help & Tech Support page or contact our office.

How much does it cost to get certified? $

Our pricing is simple and transparent. We do not run bait-and-switch “specials” or hidden fees.

Prices vary slightly by state, but most new and renewal certifications fall in the range of around $95–$150, with partner dispensary discounts available in certain locations.

For exact pricing, visit your state page:

No gimmicks • No recurring subscription fees

Does insurance cover medical marijuana certifications? ℹ️

No. At this time, health insurance does not cover medical marijuana certifications, state fees, or cannabis products in any of the states we serve.

You may be able to use an HSA or FSA card in some situations, but that varies by plan and processor. You are responsible for checking with your plan administrator.

What medical conditions qualify for a card?

Each state has its own list of qualifying conditions. Common examples include:

  • Chronic or severe pain
  • Anxiety disorders
  • PTSD
  • Cancer and cancer-related symptoms
  • Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), Crohn’s, ulcerative colitis
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Seizure disorders / epilepsy
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Serious or terminal illnesses

Some states also allow a doctor to certify patients for other conditions that are similar in nature or severity.

For details, see the full condition list on your state page or talk with the doctor during your visit.

Do I need to come into an office or is this all online? 📞

In every state we serve, your appointment is done by telemedicine — typically by phone, sometimes by video if required.

You can complete your visit from home, work, or anywhere private and quiet. All we ask is that you:

  • Answer from a quiet place where you can talk openly
  • Have your ID nearby
  • Be prepared to discuss your medical history and current medications
How long does the doctor call usually take?

Most visits take about 5–15 minutes, depending on how complex your history is and how many questions you have.

The visit is not rushed, but we also don’t waste your time. Our doctors focus on:

  • Your main symptoms and diagnoses
  • Past treatments you have tried
  • Whether cannabis is appropriate and safe
  • Basic guidance on how to get started
What happens if I miss the doctor’s call? 📵

Please watch your phone closely during your chosen call window. The call may show as “Unknown” or “Spam Likely” depending on your carrier.

If you miss the call:

  • The doctor may try you again once during the same window.
  • Our office will follow up to reschedule, usually the next business day.

We want you to be certified, but we do need you to be reachable during your time window.

I’m stuck in the state portal / never got my card. Can you help? 🖥

Yes. One of the things that makes Green Bridge Society different is that we actively help patients with the state side of the process — not just the doctor visit.

We can often help with:

  • Logging into your state portal
  • Resetting usernames and passwords
  • Updating your mailing address
  • Confirming that your certification is active
  • Understanding what step comes next

Start with our Help & State Portal Support page. If you still need assistance, reach out to our office and we’ll walk you through it.

For Virginia: Do I need a state card or just the doctor’s certification? VA

In Virginia, the key requirement is a valid written certification from a registered practitioner. With that certification and a valid ID, you can purchase medical cannabis at licensed dispensaries.

A separate state-issued card is optional. Some patients still choose to register with the state for an ID card, but it is not required for in-state purchases under current rules.

Your Green Bridge Society practitioner will issue the proper Virginia certification letter and give you instructions on how to use it at dispensaries.

How often do I need to renew my certification? ♻️

Most states require renewal every 12 months, although some have slightly different timelines.

We recommend that patients schedule renewals 30–60 days before their current certification expiration date so there is no gap in access.

We send reminders by email and/or text, but ultimately it is your responsibility to renew on time. If you are unsure of your expiration date, contact our office and we’ll help you verify it.

Do I need to send medical records before my appointment? 📄

Medical records are helpful but not always required before your visit.

In many cases, your doctor can rely on:

  • Your description of your diagnosis and symptoms
  • Medications you are currently taking
  • Prior treatments you have tried

However, for certain conditions or more complex histories, we may ask for documentation to support your diagnosis. If records are needed, our team will let you know how to send them securely.

Is medical cannabis safe with my other medications? ⚕️

Cannabis is a real medication and can interact with other drugs. During your visit, the doctor will review your medication list and any major safety concerns.

For more detailed regimen planning and drug interaction review, you can also schedule a pharmacist consultation. Our pharmacist can help with:

  • Drug–drug interaction checks
  • Planning a starting regimen
  • Choosing products (flower, vape, edibles, tinctures, topicals)
  • Adjusting doses safely over time

Certifying doctors and our pharmacist work together, but your regular doctors should also be kept in the loop whenever possible.

What is your refund or rescheduling policy?

  • You can reschedule your appointment if you give reasonable notice.
  • If the doctor cannot certify you, we may offer a partial or adjusted refund in some situations.
  • Missed calls without any response may be subject to a rebooking fee.

For the most accurate information, please review the policy on your state’s scheduling page or contact our office before booking.
