Pennsylvania Minor Patient Certifications & Caregiver Cards

Green Bridge Society provides minor patient certifications in Pennsylvania only. When a patient is under 18, Pennsylvania requires a registered caregiver to manage and pick up medication. This page explains what to expect with your child’s certification and how to complete the PA caregiver card process inside the state portal (background check + fingerprinting).

1) How PA Minor Certifications Work

Minor certifications are handled carefully and require clinical review. Our certifying physician is a pediatric specialist and will review documentation of the medical condition and determine whether medical cannabis is an appropriate option to try.

What to have ready (recommended)

  • Parent/guardian + caregiver details (legal names as shown on IDs).
  • Medical documentation supporting the condition (recent notes, diagnosis records, relevant history).
  • Current medication list (sleep meds, anxiety meds, seizure meds, etc.).
  • A reliable phone number (some calls may come through as spam; answer when we call).
Pharmacist follow-up is included for all PA minor patients (new + renewing).
After certification, our staff pharmacist follows up to support the caregiver with product type, dosing approach, timing, side effects, interactions, and adjustments—plus any caregiver questions as the plan evolves.

Typical sequence

  • Submit intake + schedule your appointment.
  • Pediatric specialist reviews documentation and completes the certification if appropriate.
  • Caregiver completes PA portal steps (background check + fingerprinting) as prompted.
  • Once approved and any PA fees are completed, cards are mailed to the address on file.

State timelines and portal prompts can vary. Your PA portal status is the best indicator of what is required next.

2) Pennsylvania Caregiver Card Steps (PA State Portal)

Common Questions (PA Minors)

Do I need a caregiver card if I’m the parent?
For PA minor patients, a registered caregiver is typically required. The PA portal will show what is needed and when each step becomes available.
When should I do the background check and fingerprinting steps?
As soon as the PA portal presents the caregiver registration steps. Starting early helps prevent delays.
What causes delays most often?
Address errors, name mismatches (portal vs ID), incomplete background check sections, or missed fingerprinting appointments. Double-check everything before submitting.
Will someone help with dosing/product guidance for a minor?
Yes. Our staff pharmacist follows up with all PA minor patients (new and renewing) to support caregiver questions, dosing approach, timing, side effects, and adjustments.
What if the pediatric specialist decides cannabis isn’t appropriate?
The physician will make a clinical decision based on documentation and safety considerations. If cannabis is not an appropriate option to try, we will explain why and discuss reasonable next steps.
