Tips for your first dispensary visit
Tip 01

Bring your card + ID

You'll need your state medical marijuana card and a valid government-issued photo ID at every visit.

Tip 02

Ask questions freely

Pharmacists and budtenders are there to help. Ask about product types, dosing, and what works for your condition.

Tip 03

Start low, go slow

Especially with edibles and tinctures. Begin with the lowest dose and increase gradually over days.

Dispensary Locator FAQs

Common questions about finding and visiting cannabis dispensaries across the states Green Bridge Society serves.

Do I need a medical card to buy from a dispensary?

In medical-only states (PA, WV, VA, LA), yes — you need a valid state medical cannabis card or written certification to purchase. In states with adult-use programs (OH, MI, MD, NY, ME), adults 21+ can purchase from dual-use or adult-use dispensaries without a medical card, though a medical card may unlock different products, tax savings, and possession limits.

Can I use my medical cannabis card in another state?

It depends on the state. Some states have reciprocity programs that recognize out-of-state medical cards (Oklahoma offers a 30-day temporary patient license, for example). Others do not. Always check the destination state's rules before traveling — and remember it's still federally illegal to cross state lines with cannabis products, even between two legal states.

Are dispensary maps on Leafly, Weedmaps, or Dutchie official?

No. Those are third-party platforms — useful for menus and reviews, but not authoritative for licensing. For the official list of currently licensed dispensaries, always check the state agency. Each state has its own regulator (PA DOH, WV OMC, Ohio DCC, VA CCA, MI CRA, MD MCA, NY OCM, OK OMMA, LA LDH, ME OCP) and they're the only authoritative source.

What products can I buy at a Pennsylvania dispensary?

Pennsylvania dispensaries sell vape cartridges, oils, tinctures, capsules, topicals (creams and balms), and dry leaf for vaporization. PA does not allow combustion (smoking) and does not currently permit edibles in commercial form. All PA dispensaries are required to have on-site pharmacists for consultations.

What's the difference between medical and adult-use dispensaries?

Medical-only dispensaries serve patients with valid medical cards and are often the only option in medical-only states. Adult-use dispensaries serve adults 21+ without a medical card. Dual-use dispensaries (common in Ohio, Maryland, Michigan, New York) serve both. Medical patients typically get tax savings, larger possession limits, and access to certain products restricted from the adult-use market.

What should I bring to my first dispensary visit?

Bring your state-issued medical cannabis card (or written certification if your state uses one) and a valid government-issued photo ID. Many dispensaries are cash-only or have on-site ATMs, so bring cash for your first visit. Some accept debit cards or app-based payments — check the dispensary's website in advance.

I don't have my medical card yet. Can Green Bridge help me get certified?

Yes. Green Bridge Society provides medical cannabis certifications by telemedicine in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, Virginia, Michigan, Maryland, New York, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Maine. Most appointments take 5-15 minutes. We also help with state portal registration after your visit. See certification details for your state.
