Renewing your Maine certification
One telehealth visit and a fresh certification. No state application, no fee, no waiting — the only thing to keep track of is a date printed on a document you may have filed away.
First: dig out your certification
The expiration date is printed on it, and because Maine has no patient registry there's no portal to look it up in. Your certification is the record.
If you can't find it, get in touch — if we issued yours we can tell you when it was written and when it runs out. It's also a good moment to photograph the new one when it arrives, so this is easier next year.
Renewal is the same visit, at the same price
Maine's process doesn't distinguish much between a first certification and a renewal — your provider evaluates you, decides whether cannabis is still appropriate, and issues a new certification through the state's online system. That's why our Maine price is the same either way.

Book your renewal visit
Telehealth with a Maine provider, $75. Because there's no state processing behind it, you don't need much lead time — but renew before the date rather than after, since your certification is what a dispensary relies on and it stops working when it lapses.
A couple of weeks ahead is plenty.
Your provider issues the new certification
They'll review how the past year has gone — what's helped, what hasn't, whether anything has changed — and issue a new certification through Maine's mandatory online system.
Replace your old copy straight away. Both the printed one and the photo on your phone. An expired certification presented at a dispensary is the most avoidable wasted trip there is.
What renewal costs
⚠️ If you hold the optional state card, that's separate
Most Maine patients never apply for the registry ID card, since the certification alone is sufficient. But if you did get one, it runs on its own schedule with the Office of Cannabis Policy and renewing your certification with us doesn't renew it.
The same goes for anyone acting as your caregiver — caregiver cards are mandatory rather than optional, and they're maintained with the state independently of your certification.

I've lost my certification and don't know when it expires.▾
Call us — if we issued it, we can tell you the dates and sort out a replacement copy. Maine has no patient registry or portal, so unlike most states there's nowhere for you to look it up yourself. That's also why it's worth photographing the new one immediately.
How early should I renew?▾
A couple of weeks before expiry is plenty. There's no state queue to allow for and the new certification is valid immediately, so the only thing that matters is doing it before the date rather than after.
What if it already expired?▾
Straightforward to fix. There's no registration to fall out of and no reinstatement process — book a visit, get a new certification issued, and you're back the same day. You just couldn't purchase in the meantime.
Why is renewal the same price as a new certification?▾
Because in Maine it's essentially the same visit. There's no shortened renewal pathway on the state's side and no reduced paperwork — your provider evaluates you and issues a certification through the same system either way. We price it accordingly rather than charging differently for identical work.
Can I switch to you from another provider?▾
Yes, and there's nothing to transfer — no registry, no notification, no waiting. Any Maine provider registered to use the state certification system can issue your next certification. Book the renewal and mention you're coming from elsewhere.
Do I need to tell the state anything?▾
No. Patient registration is voluntary in Maine, so unless you chose to hold the optional registry card there's nothing on your side to maintain. Your provider handles the certification through the state's system.
Does my caregiver need to do anything?▾
Caregiver cards are mandatory in Maine and maintained separately with the Office of Cannabis Policy, so their registration runs on its own schedule rather than following your certification. Worth them checking their own dates rather than assuming your renewal covers it.
