West Virginia Medical Marijuana Portal: How to Register (Step by Step)

The West Virginia Office of Medical Cannabis (OMC) portal is one of the most confusing state systems we've seen. Patients get stuck on document uploads, photo requirements, and application errors constantly.

How the WV Process Works

West Virginia is a two-part process:

1. Doctor Certification — A registered physician (like ours) evaluates you and issues a written certification. This confirms you have a qualifying condition.

2. State Registration — You apply through the OMC portal, upload documents, pay the $50 state fee, and wait for approval. The state reviews applications within 30-60 days.

Step-by-Step: OMC Portal Registration

Step 1: Get Your Doctor Certification First

You can't complete the state application without a physician certification. Schedule your appointment with Green Bridge Society first. Once certified, you'll have the documentation you need.

Step 2: Create Your OMC Account

Go to the WV Medical Cannabis Patient Portal: https://wv-public.mycomplia.com/login

Click "REGISTER" in the top-right corner. Create your account with a valid email address.

Step 3: Start Your Application

Once logged in, begin your patient application. You'll need to enter personal information and upload several documents.

Step 4: Upload Your Documents

This is where most patients get stuck. You need:

Photo ID — WV driver's license or state ID. Must be clear and legible.

Proof of WV Residency — Usually your ID covers this, but if your address doesn't match, you may need a utility bill, lease, or bank statement.

Passport-Style Photo — This trips people up the most. Requirements:

  • Color photo, high resolution

  • Plain white or off-white background

  • Clear image of your face, no filters

  • 2x2 inches

  • No damage, creases, or smudges

Physician Certification — The written certification from your doctor (we provide this after your appointment).

Step 5: Pay the $50 State Fee

The OMC charges a $50 application fee. This may be waived if you can demonstrate financial hardship.

Step 6: Wait for Approval

The OMC reviews applications within 30-60 days. You'll receive email updates on your status.

  • Approved — Download your digital card from the portal

  • Rejected for corrections — Fix the issues and resubmit (no new application needed)

  • Denied — You'll receive an explanation by email

Step 7: Download Your Card

Once approved, log back into the portal and download your digital medical cannabis card. You can now visit any licensed WV dispensary.

Common Problems (and How to Fix Them)

Photo rejected? Most photo rejections are because of background color, lighting, or image quality. Use a plain white wall, good lighting, and take the photo straight-on. No selfies with filters.

Document upload failing? Check file size and format. The portal usually accepts JPG, PNG, or PDF. If your file is too large, compress it or take a new photo.

Application stuck in review? The OMC takes 30-60 days. If it's been longer, contact them directly:

Certification expired before approval? If your doctor certification expires while your application is pending, you may need a new one. Contact us and we'll help.
