How to Renew Your Pennsylvania Medical Marijuana Card (Step by Step)
How to Renew Your PA Medical Marijuana Card (Step by Step)
Your Pennsylvania medical marijuana card expires every year. Here's exactly how to renew it — and avoid any gaps in your access.
---
When to Renew
You can renew up to 60 days before your card expires. We recommend scheduling your renewal 30-60 days early so you're never without access.
Don't wait until it expires. If your card lapses, you can't purchase at dispensaries until the renewal is complete and your new card arrives.
Check your expiration date in your PA DOH portal under "Card Status" — or just look at the date printed on your physical card.
---
What Renewal Involves
Renewal has two parts:
1. Doctor Recertification
You need a licensed PA physician to certify you again. This is what Green Bridge Society does. Quick telemedicine call — usually just a few minutes.
2. State Fee Payment
The PA Department of Health charges $50/year (waived if you receive Medicaid, SNAP, WIC, PACE, or CHIP). You pay this in the portal under "Make Payment."
You can pay the state fee up to 30 days before your due date. Paying early does NOT affect when your new card is mailed — the doctor certification triggers that.

Step-by-Step Renewal Process
Step 1: Check your PA DOH account
Log in at padohmmp.custhelp.com. Verify your mailing address is correct under Profile Settings. The state will NOT forward your card.
Step 2: Pay the state fee (or apply for waiver)
Go to "Make Payment" in your portal. If you qualify for assistance, apply for the fee waiver here.
Step 3: Schedule your renewal with Green Bridge
Book your renewal appointment. Our doctors call during your selected window. The call takes just a few minutes.
Step 4: Wait for your new card
Once our doctor submits your recertification, the state prints and mails your new card. Most patients receive it within 1-2 weeks.

What It Costs
Doctor recertification (Green Bridge): $50
State annual fee: $50 (waived for Medicaid, SNAP, WIC, PACE, CHIP)
Total: $50-$100 depending on fee waiver eligibility

Common Renewal Questions
My card already expired. Can I still renew?
Yes. Even if your card is expired, it's still considered a renewal (not a new patient). Schedule your renewal and we'll get you recertified.
I was certified by a different doctor last time. Can I renew with you?
Yes. You can renew with any licensed PA physician. You don't have to use the same doctor.
Do I need to send medical records again?
Usually not for renewals. Our doctor will ask about your condition and confirm cannabis is still helping.
When will my new card arrive?
Typically 1-2 weeks after your doctor certification. The state controls printing and mailing.
My new card hasn't arrived. What do I do?
