New Patient vs Renewal: Which Medical Marijuana Appointment Do You Need?

Booking the wrong appointment type is common — and it can slow everything down. Here’s how to choose correctly in any state.

Choose “New Patient” if:

  • You’ve never had a medical marijuana card in your state, or

  • Your state account was previously taken down and you are reapplying now.

Choose “Renewal” if:

  • You already have (or recently had) a card in the state, and

  • You’re renewing before your state deadline

If you’re unsure, do this quick check

Log into your state portal and look for:

  • active/expired status

  • renewal window dates

  • whether you can still renew or must reapply

FAQ

What if I accidentally book the wrong one?
It happens — support can usually fix it, but it may cause delays.

Does renewal take less time?
Often yes, because the doctor is confirming continued benefit and updating the state certification.
